Dogs & Dating
May 24 - 10:00 AM CST
Those who own dogs often defer to
their dogs when it comes to whom they date. If the dog doesn't like him,
she isn't going out with him again. We trust dogs' sense of who's a good
person, don't we? Ask any dog owner and he or she will say, "Dogs know."
Listen as we talk with some folks who run the top
dating websites for pet owners. We'll also talk with Deborah Wood,
prolific writer and
author of "The Dog Lover's Guide to Dating" about how to make a
good first impression on the dog, and how to train your dog to fetch a
date. Listen for conversation starters for dog owners, too.
Deborah
Wood has been The Oregonian newspaper's popular 'Pet Talk'
columnist since 1998. You can see her recent columns and blog at

She is also the author of 11 pet books, with a
12th book to come out later this year. Some of her books include:

What are You Looking For?
The qualities you love about your dog
may be the qualities you should look for in a mate.
Love Dobermans? They're smart,
they're tough, they get the job done, they're driven and they're
stylish. You might end up with an attorney. Look for men, not guys. As
Dave Barry says, "A Doberman is a man. A Labrador is a guy."
Love Min-Pins? They're energetic,
territorial, and loyal. Look for an executive assistant to a powerful
CEO. She's smart and can see the big picture, but very committed to
protecting those she loves. She's organized and flexible and works well
with others.
Love Golden Retrievers? They're up
for a game anytime, get along with everyone and want to be around
people. You might end up with an athletic coach or teacher.
Love Pugs? They're fun-loving clowns,
but they're tenacious. They're sturdy and adaptable. Yet they're not
like everybody. They're friendly but not slavishly devoted. They're full
of contrasts. You might end up with an artist or poet, a software
engineer or an entrepreneur who comes up with something no one else has
thought of.
Love Beagles? They're the
All-American dog. They're outdoorsy, friendly, active and extroverted.
They don't get in dog fights, but they also don't stay in the yard very
well. You might end up with a bar owner or bartender, a mailman or
police officer. Someone who's independent and helpful to others.
Love Pekingese? They're contemplative
and watchful. They're not into the rat race, but they love their people.
You might end up with a professor, philosopher, or a man of the cloth.
Love Newfoundlands? They're
nurturing, gentle, loving and they watch over those they love. They work
hard and learn fast and stay until the job is done. You might end up
with someone in a service industry such as a nurse, social worker or
fire fighter. - Deborah Wood
